Infections Masterclass

In this masterclass, trainees will build their knowledge and confidence in recognising, understanding and managing infections. The session will cover antimicrobial stewardship, the core principles of antibacterial therapy, recognising infection red flags, and identifying and managing sepsis, alongside an overview of high-risk antibiotics and the principles of therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM). Trainees will also have opportunities to apply their clinical knowledge by practising exam-style questions and developing a clear understanding of how this topic is assessed in the GPhC registration assessment.

What you'll learn

By the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Apply antimicrobial stewardship principles to promote safe and
    effective use of antibiotics in clinical practice.
  • Recognise and respond to infection red flags, including early signs of
    sepsis, to ensure timely referral and intervention.
  • Understand the role of high-risk antibiotics and therapeutic drug
    monitoring, and how to support patients through services like Pharmacy
    First.
