So your CV has been selected and you’ve been called in for a job interview.
Obviously you’ve already impressed your employer and they want to find out more about you.
Interviews can be daunting, many employers make a judgement not just on your skills but on your overall suitability, communication skills, and how you present yourself.
Here are a few advice points:
1. Make sure you check the date and time of the interview. Arriving slightly early will give you a chance to relax and collect your thoughts.
2. Make sure you bring along any necessary documents requested in a suitable folder.
3. Introduce yourself, and show that you have a positive approach by smiling. Remember be aware of your body language is saying, this can have a major effect on how your employer judges your character, avoid slouching fidgeting or showing panic signs.
4. Listen carefully to the questions before answering and don’t interrupt your employer.
5. Avoid answering simply ‘yes’ or ‘no’; try to give examples of how you have applied your skills.
6. If you don’t understand a question don’t be afraid to ask for a clarification.
7. Speak clearly and slowly. If you are nervous try taking deep breaths before answering and take your time to think about what you’re saying
8. Maintaining eye contact is important; if you are being interviewed by more than one person make sure you address them as well.
